STEEL WOOL SOAP PADS

Steel Wool Reels & Hand Pads

DESCRIPTION:
The term Metal Wool refers to a family of products produced by the careful shaving of wire into a mass of strands resembling "wool". Metal wool shaved from plain steel wire is called steel wool. By varying the shaving process, the size or thickness of the individual strands can be varied. Each steel wool product is produced to one of eight narrow ranges of fiber thickness, called its "grade".

BENEFITS:
Steel wool possesses many properties that make it suitable for use in a wide range of different applications.
• Gentle Abrasiveness - Unlike sandpaper and other grit-based abrasives that scratch away material with sharp points, metal wool fibers perform like thousands of tiny planes on a surface. The result is a smoother surface after sanding and a better result after finishing.
• High Aspect Ratio - The shaving of wire into metal wool is an economical method to produce fine metal fibers. Metal fibers have many chemical and physical properties that make them ideal for various applications including thermal management, chemical reactions, electrochemistry, and composite reinforcement.
• Design Flexibility - Metal wool can be efficiently manufactured into many forms that allow easy integration into final applications. From chopping into low aspect ratio fibers for friction materials to forming textile-like metal fiber fabrics, metal wool is the material of choice for many OEM applications.

MATERIAL:
Steel wool is made from a low carbon steel alloy specifically formulated for steel wool manufacture. The chemical makeup is available upon request.

FORMATS:
The standard formats for steel wool are the 5 pound reel and the hand pad. Both products begin with a web of metal wool approximately 1/2" thick by 4" wide. This web is either wound onto a core or cut and rolled into a hand-sized pad. The web is approximately 25 feet per pound. Large users of steel wool can also purchase 20 pound reels, packed 3 per case or in full pallets of 300 pounds.
