Filter media
The VF Series of filter media has a performance range from 300 micron rating down to 10 microns. By varying basis weight and thickness...
Sintered Metal Depth Filters are known to have many desirable properties, such as:
• High dirt holding capacity
• Low density and pressure drop (high porosity)
• High thermal capacity, strength and cleanability
• They are strong, formable and weldable
However, traditional metal fiber filters have not been economical for use in many applications where they might otherwise have substantial performance advantages over wire cloth or sintered powder.
GMT is proud to introduce a different way to look at metallic filter media. In addition to their high cost,
traditional metal fiber filters require many application-specific parameters to be defined. Thus hundreds of combinations of graded layers, fiber diameters and basis weights result in nearly unmanageable complexity. GMT’s unique shaved metal fibers give our VersaFilter sintered metal fiber media amazing range of filtration efficiencies with just a few simple media series. Through testing we have shown that the VF series family of media exhibit linear relationships between density and filter rating. Utilizing this simplicity and our low cost manufacturing process, GMT opens up new possibilities for using metal fiber media where high cost, complexity and other factors have precluded them in the past. In addition, the fibers’ rough surfaces and sharp edges create a new dynamic of “gel shear” in polymer filtration that does not exist with round cross-section fiber.
The VF Series of filter media has a performance range from 300 micron rating down to 10 microns. By varying basis weight and thickness, but keeping fiber dimension constant, one family of products covers this wide range. For less critical applications, VF Media can be effective (at 90% efficiency) to below 10 microns. The MVF and MVFM Series combine the filtration attributes of the VF series with stainless steel wire mesh sintered to one or both sides for added strength and compatibility with present uses.
