Electrowinning
BENEFITS:
The performance of low carbon steel wool and stainless steel wool in electrowinning
cells is well established. The properties of strength, high surface area, consistently
high yield, and low cost are unavailable in alternative materials. Also, in the
case of stainless steel wool, the cells may be rinsed and reused many times to further
increase efficiency.
MATERIAL:
Low carbon steel or AISI 434 stainless steel.
FIBER SIZES:
Fibers typically used are in the range of 60 - 130 microns (0.0024" - 0
.0051").
FORMAT:
Available in common 4" rolls, needled batt up to 2.7 meters (105 inches)
wide, die cut shapes, or assembled into panels. Also available in our exclusive
METRIX™ metal textiles in many configurations.
As a cathode material in electrowinning cells used to recover gold or other precious
metals from mining slurries.
APPLICATION NOTES:
In markets where the labor cost of hand-winding cell frames with wool is
not significant, the material is typically sold in reels. Where time or labor savings
are desired, then pre-made cell panels (blankets) are preferred. Our exclusive Metrix
needle punched textiles also offer increased durability, handing performance, and
consistent porosity.
